Hair Loss and Thinning

by | 31 Jul 2021

Why is my hair thinning?

There can be so many different reasons for hair thinning and hair loss.

-Genetics              -Aging              -Hormones

-Illness              -Lifestyle              -Menopause

-Medication            -Medical Treatments         -After pregnancy

-Diet                -Chemical &/or Mechanical stress to the hair

– Stress          -Viruses and most recently the Covid virus

All of the above are common triggers that may contribute to hair loss or thinning of the hair.

Please note: You may need to seek medical advice regarding some of these triggers and what may work best for you individually.

How to deal with hair loss and thinning

Early intervention is they key to slowing down the signs of thinning and hair loss.

The products that you use will be your first step to preventing hair lost and promoting new growth.

Step 1: Cleansing and detoxifying your scalp against oil, styling product build up and hormone residue is essential. I recommend doing a double cleanse when shampooing your hair. The first cleanse will remove build up and residue that sits on your scalp and hair. The second cleanse will clean and freshen your scalp prepping it for step 2 (and can extend the days between washes which is always a bonus).

Step 2: Hydrating and Conditioning not only your hair but your scalp too! Our NAK and Kemon ranges for hair loss prevention are specifically designed not only to restore moisture to your hair but to your scalp. This is important to create pH balance and assist with absorption of the products you will use in the next steps. The product should be massaged into the scalp, focusing on problem areas and left on for up to 5mins. I would also recommend combing the product into the mid lengths and ends of your hair for maximum benefit.

Step 3: Strengthen and protect your hair follicles and help prevent unwanted residue on the scalp. One of our favourite products from NAKs scalp to hair range isMineral Defence. This product will cool the scalp and strengthen the hair from root to tip encouraging healthier hair production each day.  This product can be used morning and evening and does not need to be rinsed out of the hair.

Step 4: Revitalise and Energise your hair follicles with a concentrated blend of vitamins, minerals and concentrated ingredients to rejuvenate hair follicles and target hair loss. We have had great results from NAKs Follicle Energiser and Kemon’s P Factor intensive lotion which is available for women and men.

Our Products

If you choose the NAK range for Step 1 & 2, Step 3 (Mineral Defence) and Step 4 (Follicle Energiser) are the perfect pair to achieve the best results.

Energise Shampoo & Conditioner: For Fine, Thinning,  Natural Hair (non colour treated hair). Revitalise Shampoo & Conditioner: Dry, Dehydrated, Thinning Hair (colour treated hair). Moisture Rich Shampoo & Conditioner:  Medium to Coarse , Thinning Hair (colour treated hair).

If you choose the Kemon Range for Step 1 & 2, Step 4 (P Factor intensive lotion) is your follow up product. This product comes in 12 6ml bottles and is applied to obvious thinning areas, massaged into these areas and to be left in to work its magic. These bottles can be used daily for best results. Use sparingly and one bottle can last 2/3 applications.

Oxygen Therapy

At Plush Hair, we pride ourselves on being the only salon in the south east of Ireland to offer scalp and hair therapy with our medically graded oxygen machine and Kemon Trico diagnostics scalp camera.

Our oxygen machine is modified for hair treatments using a transdermal supply of oxygen to penetrate deeper into the scalp and hair shaft making the treatment 4 times more effective than applying the treatment topically. Our Kemon P Factor intensive lotion can be applied with our oxygen machine for even more effective results when dealing with hair loss or thinning.

My top 5 tips when dealing with hair loss/thinning are:

1: Regular Haircuts and professional colours and treatments.

2: A good homecare routine (like above), using heat protection when drying your hair or using heated tools and keeping the heat settings low on your styling tools.

3: Massage your scalp, this will stimulate blow flow to your scalp, promoting hair growth. Also, a silk pillowcase is a game changer and not only benefits your hair but your skin too. If you invest in professional haircare to benefit your hair or expensive skincare to treat your skin, well your pillowcase is in contact with your face for 8 hours a day on average. That’s a third of your day! Invest in your pillowcase! (Why not try our scalp massager & “Pillowboxed” Mulberry Silk Pillowcase linked below).

4: A healthy and balanced diet.

5: Take time for you! The stresses of everyday life (especially nowadays) can really take their toll on our mental health, causing stress which is one of the biggest factors in hair loss. Get out for some you time, read a book, have a bath, book in for a massage, get your nails done, meet your friends for a coffee, whatever it is, remember to look after yourself and be kind to yourself ❤

As always, if you have any questions on any of the products mentioned above or if you would like to know more about hair loss of thinning, I would be only too happy to help you and answer your questions. You can contact me through the salon phone 086-8696624 or on our Instagram or Facebook pages.
